Choosing A Perfect Camp Spot
Sep 14th, 2008 by DavePF
If you want to get away from your daily routines of work, school, sleep and eat then camping is a great choice. It affords the opportunity to connect with nature in a way that the majority of us simply are not able to do on a daily basis.
What is the best way to pick the perfect camping spot?
Before you can find a camping site that will be perfect for you it is necessary to find a great campground. This is easy thanks to the Internet and the fact that many campgrounds have their own website. You can check out the campsites through the website before actually going there, allowing you to make an educated decision about your choice of campground.
Just remember that much like the pictures in a restaurant’s menu card, the campsites will always look nicer on “film” than they are when you see them in person.
Deciding what type of camping you want to do is the first step in choosing your campsite. A few campgrounds still offer what is known as “primitive camping.” Do you know what that means?
At a primitive campground you will have to provide everything that you need yourself. This includes toilet paper, lots of water, radio, gear, shelter, etc. Primitive campsites are usually deep in the wilderness where you will not find electricity, water, showers, or even pit toilets.
Quite the opposite are the campgrounds that are not only breathtakingly gorgeous, but also provide lots of amenities, such as water, electricity, and disposal. You can even find spas at certain campgrounds!
Many campgrounds are balanced within these two extremes. If you choose to camp in a private park you will probably find all amenities you desire. Many campgrounds welcome long-term guests since they offer laundry facilities, arcades and shops. The majority of private parks will also organize activities like bingo games, or have fun and/or competitive activities for children.
Fees for the Campground.
It costs more to stay in private commercial campgrounds than in ones that are open to the general public. State park campgrounds can have any level of amenities, from primitive tent campgrounds to near-luxury resorts. Some of them offer electric, swimming pools, warm showers, toilet facilities, laundry rooms, areas for the children to play in, guided tours, etc.
The majority of the state or national forest parks however are usually very basic. You will probably find fire rings, picnic tables, and pit toilets. Prices on these campground are in the right price range for everyone, sometimes even free.
Campgrounds will book quickly during nice weather, so book early!
When the weather is beautiful, most people will pick a campground early and stay there to enjoy the day as opposed to drive the whole day for a far-away campsite. If you want a premium spot you have to come early and get lucky.
Would you want a location by the swimming pool and children’s playground? That will be a wonderful convenience for the children but at the same time it could be a noisy location with a lot of foot traffic to contend with. The same can be said for locations close to restroom and shower facilities. People will probably be tramping by your tent around the clock.
Are you someone who needs the sounds of a noisy city or do you prefer a more quiet setting? With all that camping has to offer there is sure to be something for everyone and you will find a campground that is perfect for you and your family.
