What to look for in Bike Racks

If you are tired of struggling to get your bike in and out of the car, then a bike rack is the perfect accessory for your vehicle, especially if you have to haul more than one bike.
There are different types of bike racks. All you have to do is choose which best meets your needs. If you have a Sport Utility Vehicle, then a spare tire mounted bike rack might be the best choice. These bike racks are attached securely through the spare wheel and a backing plate. It lifts the bikes high enough that you can still use the trailer hitch, it keeps them away from road dust, and they are usually quite easy to install. They are able to hold anywhere from one to five bikes.
If you do not have a rear spare tire, then a hitch mountain bike rack is a good idea. Fitting onto standard hitch sizes, one can find racks that affix into the hitch receiver, those that attach onto standard ball hitches, or, if you still need the towing ability, some that install around the hitch. One convenience with hitch racks is that they often fold down to allow complete access to the rear space of the vehicle.
