The issuing authority may also require applicants to attest that they have had no criminal convictions, or that they do not partake in certain activities(like prostitution or drug trafficking). Some countries will deny visas if the travelers passports show evidence of citizenship or travel to a country which is not recognized by that country. Go to australia migration for more information.

For example, some Muslim countries will not issue visas to nationals of Israel or those whose passports bear evidence of visiting Israel.Transit visa generally valid for 5 days or less, for passing through the country to a third destination. Special Category Visa is a type of Australian visa granted to most New Zealand citizens on arrival in Australia.

New Zealand Citizens may then permanently reside in Australia under the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement. Immigrant visa, granted for those intending to immigrate to the issuing country. They usually are issued for a single journey as the holder will, depending on the country, later be issued a permanent resident identification card which will allow the traveler to enter to the issuing country an unlimited number of times.(for example, the United States Permanent Resident Card).

Marriage visa, granted for a limited period prior to intended marriage based on a proven relationship with a citizen of the destination country. For example, a German woman who wishes to marry an American man would obtain a Fiancee Visa (also known as a K-1 visa) to allow her to enter the United States.A K1 Fiancee Visa is valid for four months from the date of its approval.Temporary worker visa, for approved employment in the host country. These are generally more difficult to obtain but valid for longer periods of time than a business visa. Examples of these are the United States H-1B and L-1 visas.

Tourist visa, for a limited period of leisure travel, no business activities allowed. Some countries do not issue tourist visas. Saudi Arabia introduced tourist visas only in 2004 although it did (and still does) issue pilgrimage visas for Hajj pilgrims. Business visa, for engaging in commerce in the country. These visas generally preclude permanent employment, for which a work visa would be required. Refer to new zealand migration for more information.

Electronic visa is applied for over the internet and stored in a computer and is tied to the passport number. Australia (calling it ETA) and the United States (from 2009, calling it ESTA) have this system, although it is not called visa by the US.The validity of a visa is not the same as the authorized period of stay in the issuing country.

The visa validity usually indicates when the alien can apply for entry to the country. For example, if a visa has been issued January 1 and expires March 30th, and the typical authorized period of stay in a country is 90 days, then the 90-day authorized stay starts on the day the passenger reaches the country, which has to be between January 1 and March 30th. The traveler could therefore stay in the issuing country until July 1st.

Once in the country, the validity period of a visa or authorized stay can often be extended for a fee at the discretion of immigration authorities. Overstaying a period of authorized stay given by the immigration officers is considered illegal immigration even if the visa validity period is not over (i.e.for multiple entry visas) and a form of being out of status and the offender may be fined, prosecuted, deported, or even blacklisted from entering the country again.

The term illegal alien commonly refers to a foreign national who resides in another country unlawfully, either by entering that country at a place other than a designated port-of-entry or as result of the expiration of a non-immigrant visa.A tourist who has the present intent to leave would be included as a legal alien described above. According to a Houston, Texas newspapers style guide, its use is pejorative and today the paper prefers the term illegal immigrant, particularly if this person intends to remain in the country indefinitely. Visit uk migration for further information.

When you’re camping with kids there’s a lot of effort and patience involved in planning and preparing for the trip. While camping with kids can be a lot more fun, if you’re not ready it can be a stressful experience for both you and the kids.

You will likely have to make some sacrifices if you’re going to take your kids camping. In the end it’s well worth it especially when the kids are having a great time.

The precious time that you are able to spend with your kids at the trip—playing, exploring nature, and doing camping activities are simply rewarding. You won’t mind the extra effort especially if you love your kids so much.

To save you from having too much of a headache, here are some tips to start with:

- Get the kids involved with the planning and preparation. Ask for their suggestions and ideas regarding camping activities and places to visit. For example, do they want to go hiking or fishing or both? Allow them to pack their own things while supervising them along the way.

Kids would do anything to prove something including being responsible so treat them like responsible adults by making them see the value of their opinions.

- You don’t need an expensive sleeping bag for kids. A cheap junior sleeping bag does the job well enough.

- Try backyard camping if it’s your kids’ first camping trip so they know what to expect and they won’t get homesick.

- Elicit their help in setting up the campsite. Teach them how to pitch their own tents and ask them to help Mom with the cooking. No, they don’t need to chop and slice or boil water over the stove. They should only be involved with kid-friendly chores.

- Be sure to teach your kids some safety skills like blowing a whistle when they’re in trouble or how to use a compass.

- Gathering round the campfire at night and singing and story telling is a lot of fun.

- Take the kids on day hikes and show them the wonders of nature.

- Don’t forget to teach them how to keep themselves safe at the camp. No playing with fire and no swimming in the lake alone are just some of the many rules they have to be familiar about.

- To get the kids to be interested in chores, create games out of them

- Carry some binoculars so you can take the kids birdwatching as one of your camping activities.

- Remember to take the insect repellent and sunscreen.

- To help your kids deal with anxiety at night, give them a flashlight or glow stick.

- Do some star-gazing.

- Remember the first aid kit.

- Have some night snacks. Not inside the tent of course. Before you go to sleep, a few chats and chips will surely be a great finale to a great day.

- Bring something for the kids to play with like binoculars or magnifying glass.

- Don’t forget to pack extra batteries for the camera and lights.

Camping is one the sure ways you can spend quality time with your kids. It may take more effort on your part but it’s well worth it.

The Torre del Oro tower, a perfect location to visit on a good-looking daytime in Seville.

When you rent an appartement in Sevilla, there are numerous things you can go check|look at} . One of the places that is worth a stay is the Torre del Oro, or the tower of gold. This tower from the 13th century has been used in the function of a jail, lookout tower and stockroom. It has been an main function of the city for several years, it is an valuable building in Seville and a lot of persons speculate about where the title comes from. It is thought the name ´Torre del Oro´ is coming from the gorgeous gold colour tiles which covered the tower. But it is also thought this title comes from the earlier use of the tower as a storehouse for the gold from America.

A couple of times people threatened by way of taking down the tower, however these plans were never implemented, luckily. The renovation costed more than 1.000.000.000 euro!

Close by the tower you´ll discover pleasant terraces next to the water, where you can chill out for a while. You won´t find only tourists but also the regional persons, named Sevillano. They are coming at this point for a good glass of wine with tapas. appartementen Sevilla in these surroundings are just as wonderful as the tower itself.

As several persons don´t know Torro del Oro also has a twin sister: La Torre de la Plata, the silver tower. The towers are connected through a large golden chain, this chain disallowed that the enemy ships would be able to go in the capital.

Among these two towers flowed a river: Gualdalquivir, this name comes from Arabian and means ´the giant river´. This waterway is more than 570 kilometres long, it flowes through five Andalusian provinces (Jaén, Córdoba, Sevilla, Huelva en Cádiz) and ends in the Gulf of Seville.

Inside the tower is a maritime museum (Museo Naval). It is truly pleasant to also take a look in here. This is possible on every day of the week, not including for Monday. It costs just one euro and on Tuesday it is even free! But notice, the museum is open from ten o´clock till two o´clock and in the weekend just from eleven o´clock.

Are you in an appartement Sevilla in the centre of the capital? Than it´s definitely worth taking a peek at this lovely hot spot. Not for the cultural aspect only but as well for enjoyment and relaxation. You can also combine it with a boat journey on the river or a walk in the old streets.

Sea Island
is well known for its championship golf course,
which after recent improvements, is now better than
ever before.
Get there by all inclusive cruises if you can.
There are a total of 54 holes, which include the
18 hole Plantation Course which opened in 1998, and
was designed by Rees Jones. The 18 hole Seaside
Course was renovated by Tom Fazio and re-opened
again in 1999. You can learn to play golf at this
course, or just play and polish your game.

The Sea Island resort also offers a spa with several
fitness facilities. You can participate in special
classes as well as personalized fitness and wellness
programs. Other activities around the resort include
tennis, horseback riding, sunset cruises, boating,
fishing, shooting school, kayaking, swimming, and
even diving lessons.
Check out last minute cruise deals also.
Sea Island also offers a family destination where
kids can choose from several different vacation
activities.

Hiking Lightweight is more popular than it was before. Too much weight on your back when you hike actually distracts you from enjoying the outdoors as you should. You feel free, unburdened, and close to nature. If you want to significantly reduce your pack weight, you can start with your shelter.

There have been some good lightweight shelter options for many years, especially if you backpack with a partner. You could split the weight of the tent by letting one person carry the fly and poles while the other carried the tent body. However there are now more options for lightweight two person tents and older models simply don’t qualify as ultraweight anymore.

Many tent manufacturers are still producing tents that are overkill for lightweight backpackers. Cheap and heavy material are still used today to make these tents. Taking good care of your tent will make it last for many years. Tents are one area of lightweight backpacking where the specialty tent makers are far outperforming the mainstream manufacturers.

With the introduction of ultralight silicone-based nylon, 2 person tents are now in the two to three pound range. One person tents are even lighter, obviously. It’s not just the fabrics that got lighter. Carbon fiber is now the standard material for tent poles. A 45″ tent pole can now weigh less than two ounces. Many new tents are designed to use a hiking pole as the tent pole. So if you’re already using hiking poles, your tent pole weight is zero. Further reduction in weight comes from the stakes which are now titanium rather than aluminum.

Tarps are a good alternative to tents for ultralight backpackers because they’re very light. It protects you from light rain if you set it up correctly but it’s also a good way to feel closer to nature. Some people use ponchos which can be used as raingear as well as tarp. It’s always great to save the total weight of a piece of gear. To protect yourself from the rain when you use a tarp, a lightweight bivvy or sleeping bag cover can be as light as six to seven ounces. A ground cloth underneath you can be in the three ounce range. Ground cloths can be made from silicone-impregnated nylon or Tyvek.

You can either use an insect repellent or mosquito net to protect yourself from bugs. If you want something less confining, use just enough no-see-um netting so that the netting stays away from your face.

If insects are just about the only concern you have, use a bug bivy. It’s a really doesn’t weigh very much.

Most lightweight tents are not freestanding like your old dome tent. But they’re fast and easy to set with parts not included like a fly sheet. Instead the tents rely on well-designed ventilation on all sides.

If you sometimes hike solo, consider the advantages of having a separate ultralight one-person shelter for those times you go alone. Since there won’t be anyone to share the burden with, you would want your tent to be as light as possible. A two-person shelter is flexible because you can also use it for solo hiking for extra space and comfort.

Look closely at all the new options for ultralight shelters. See which ones have the features to fit your needs.

The tent is usually of the heavier and bulkier things you have with you on a camping trip so if you take the lightweight option it will really save your back and the need to use bigger backpacks.

After a long cold Winter the best time of year is now here! Most people, especially children, love Summer time! For many going on a camping trip is a big part of summer. Of course for the trip to be as enjoyable as possible proper planning is required. Part of that planning should include taking the right camping gear. Of course there are other factors but gear and equipment play a huge role in how much you enjoy the trip.

First things first. A place to sleep that provides shelter is very important. You have many options such as a tent, sleeping under the stars, a camper, etc.. Price is a big factor here. With respect to camping tents there are many to choose from that can make a huge difference in your experience. What ever you choose make sure it is large enough for your group size.

Something to sleep on such as a mattress helps a lot. With respect to sleeping bags there are different kinds that are made for different types of weather conditions. If you are going somewhere freezing make sure to check what temperatures the sleeping bag is made to keep you warm in otherwise your nights may be colder then you wished.

Cooking equipment is a must. Using stuff from your home kitchen helps save money but more equipment will likely be needed. There is a lot of specialty gear on the market for cooking and kitchen needs while living in the outdoors. Have the right stuff makes a huge difference.

To help you prepare research will be needed. One of the best and easiest ways to research and learn more about what types of products you will need and if they will meet your needs is to read some reviews online. Not only will websites give you the information you need in most cases they will either sell the products directly or provide a link to where you can find a great deal.

So start your planning now for a fun Summer! Spending time out in nature if fun for the whole family and can be a really rewording experience that your children will always remember. Just make sure to get the proper equipment to avoid a camping trip nightmare and take the time to plan.

Remember to take a note pad so you can keep track of what you should have brought on your trip. This will help you for the next time so you can better plan. Each trip is a learning experience so the more you go camping the more you learn what you will need next time.

Why not spend a weekend in Austria, renting appartmenti a Viennain the city that best represents it with its imperial and anachronistic elegance? Let’s start talking about how to get there: flying is, without a shadow of a doubt, is the fastest way of getting to Vienna from Italy. Vienna’s airport is Flughafen Wien and is located only 25 minutes from the city. You can get to Vienna from the airport with the city’s metro S7 (Schnellbahn) which arrives in the city centre from Landstrasse/Wien-Mitte and North Vienna. Another option are the trains, which leave every half hour and are well-known by everyone as being the cleanest and most efficient in Europe.

Otherwise, in my opinion, the best option is to take the car from the North: take the A8 (Autostrada dei Laghi) and then take the A4 towards Tangenziale est E66 Brescia-Venice-Milan Viale Zara, which then becomes Autostrada della Serennissima; staying on the left hand side, take the A23 Autostrada Alpe-Adria towards Udine-Tarvisio-Villach crossing Austria. Keeping to the right take the A2 towards Favoriten-Flughafen, take the Knoten Wien-Inzersdorf Sud towards Wien-Altmannsdorf-Inzersdorf, go into it via the B17 Wiener Neustradter Bundesstrasse towards Zentrum-Gurtel. I know, all these names seem like tongue-twisters, but all you have to do is follow the directions and you’ll get there without any problems. The best thing to do to enjoy the options the city offers to the full, is to book the rental of an appartamenti a Vienna, maybe in the central area of the city, so you’ve got the full run of the handy public transport available to tourists.

I would firstly advise you to visit the Viennese squares: the most central ones are Maria Theresien Platz and Helden Platz: the Art History and Natural History museums stand out from the first one, which places the sovreign monument of the same name in the centre, while the second one – the Victorious Heroes’ Over The Turks Square looks out over the magnificent Hofburg complex’s new fortress (Neue Burg).
As well as being one of the most lively meeting and shopping places, the Am Of Square is surrounded by Baroque palaces and offers the “Virgin’s Column” to the centre, while the Baroque church of the Jesuits stands out on the right hand side.

Other Baroque palaces surrounded the lively Graben Square which places “The Plague Column” in the centre, which was built at the end of the 17th century after the epidemic which hit the city. These are:

Karlsplatz

Which deserves to be visited not only because of the Saint Charles Borromeo’s Church (Karlskirche), which is a valued Baroque building, but also because of the metro’s refined pavillions, made by Otto Wagner in marble and gold.
Rathaus Platz
The area in front of the Town Hall (Rathaus), surrounded by gardens, is home, in December, to the wooden benches and the big tree lit up by the famous and very busy Christmas market.

When you hire an appartement in sevilla you will quickly notice that the Moors had a huge weight on the architectural style in Andalucia. One of the greatest preserved buildings in this style is the Alcázar of Seville.

The Alcázar is in all probability the oldest palace that still serves to house the royal family. The name comes from the Arabic word of palace and it is erected on the place where used to be a Moorish fort. Mudéjar is the name of the building technique that is influenced by Moorish style.

From the original version of the palace it has developed to the way it is nowadays, with 8 separate parts, due to new residents adding parts. All these parts carry their own unique stories. The Patio de las Doncellas, that is named after the fact that the Moors demanded 100 virgins from the Christians each year during their time, has been remodeled 3 times during a very short period. One time to bring the patio back in its initial state, after that it was returned to the state it had previous to this for a filmshot only to return to its initial state yet again after the film was completed. The second story of this patio was only added in 1540 and combines the Italian renessaince and Moorish style.

In the period of Columbus the Alcázar as well played a very central role. Royal couple Ferdinand II and Isabella I added the ´Casa de Contratación´ to the palace. They used this room for business with the new world and it housed a shippingschool. The chapel in the room was used to welcome Columbus as soon as he returned from his second journey.

If you are planning to rent an Seville apartments then take on at least half a day to view this lovely ancient palace at ease. Next to the diverse patios there are a number of fantastic gardens where you can take a pleasant stroll thus there is enough to do!

Racing through the Sahara desert in temperatures up to 130 degrees took Dr. Douglas Girling six days to finish.

Just a few months later he went up to the Arctic Circle for and non-stop 120 mile footrace. A challenge not many would dare try. The conditions were harsh and cold. It was so cold that Girling thought he would freeze to death if he ever stopped even to eat and drink.

Dr. Douglas Girling was the kind of man who likes to see how far he can go in extreme conditions. Since he was at a very young, Girling had travelled to the US from South Africa where he was born to compete in triathlons. His interest in the physiology behind exercise led him to pursue a career in medicine.

Even after being married for 20 years with two kids, Girling, had never stopped running. It was October last year when he decided to go for the Sahara race along with his brother, Malcolm, and some friends. They had to run in the blistering heat carrying food and camping gear

The pain was intense but the desert was so beautiful that it was worth it. When Girling finished the race, he had run for 34 hours and 46 minutes. He felt great and his bond with his brother and friends strenghtened.

Come March, he was running again but this time in a polar race which took place in Canada’s Yukon and Northwest Territories on the Dempster Highway where the temperature at the time was around -40 degrees. It was so cold that his shoes froze solid soon after he began. The strong winds made matters worse.

He hauled a wheeled sled with a -40 degree down sleeping bag, a bivvy, a stove and some extra clothes. On his desert run, he had carried a lightweight backpack, alcohol stove, camping mat, inflatable pillow, foam flip-flops, and lycra gaiter to keep the sand out of his shoes.

It was worse than the desert. He had only run 3 miles when he realized that he had never felt such pain before. His hands froze in seconds the first time he tried to get a water bottle. What a relief it must have been to eat and sleep in the occasional sheltered checkpoints.

It was a test of his will to survive. He ran in a nylon vapor barrier liner over synthetic long underwear plus booties and head coverings. On one occasion, Girling had to stick a plastic tube into his mouth to prevent his balaclava from freezing solid.

Despite the pain, he managed to finish up to the third of four checkpoints in 48 hours, 57 minutes including four hours of sleep. Sixteen others gave up, half even before the first checkpoint.

His daring adventures had given him a first-hand experience on being out in extreme conditions. It was the closest thing to being in a survival situation without getting himself into a lot of trouble.

While Girling hasn’t given up on adventure challenges, he’s had enough of arctic running. It was the toughest race he had even ran. His next target is the jungle race in the Amazon.

Whether it is flying for business or for pleasure, overseas travels can be extremely tiresome. Most frequent fliers would rather be home than sit on an airplane on hours end. Without entertainment, boredom will creep in on you while aboard an airplane. That is why there are several things you need to do in order to survive long overseas flights. From packing the necessary things to arriving at the destination, surviving your overseas trip can be a breeze once you follow these simple guidelines.

Packing Your Things

Don’t forget to pack whatever you need. All the things you need to carry with you should be placed on your carry-on bag. This can be your travel wallet, passport, airline ticket, and one of your world time clocks, if you have any, to remind you to set the time of your watch properly once your arrive at your destination. Also, don’t forget to bring something to help you kill time like a book or an mp3 player.

If you are traveling for business, don’t pack too many things; even something as small as a briefcase will be sufficient for an overnight trip. However, if you plan to stay a little bit longer, like a day or two, be sure to prepare a change of clothes.

On the other hand, if you are traveling for pleasure, make sure that you limit your baggage to two suitcases. You don’t need to bring your entire wardrobe. As much as possible bring only the things that you need. Besides, you can always buy souvenir t-shirts at your destination area to make the vacation more exciting.

Going to the Airport

On the day of your trip, be sure to go to the airport at least 2 hours before your departure. You don’t want to be last on that check-in and security lines. Make sure that all your travel documents like your passport and airline ticket, are ready. More importantly, double check the contents of your carry-on bag to make sure that you are not carrying anything prohibited by the airport.

To save more money, take advantage of tax-free goodies at duty free shops. Before you leave, buy anything that you want at the shop but make sure that you are within bounds of your destination area’s protocols especially when it comes to alcohol.

During the Flight

The best thing to do when on a long-hour flight is to sleep and relax. This can help lessen the jet lag later. Remember to not to drinking alcohol during the flight to avoid accidents and drink plenty of water. It is easy to be dehydrated especially on long flights, so make sure you have enough water with you or ask the attendants for some.

If you brought a book with you, read that to help you kill time or you can watch the in-flight movie for entertainment. If you do plan to sleep during the trip, set your travel alarm clocks at the right time to wake you before your arrival.

Upon Arrival

Make sure you go out of the plane as quickly as possible. You would have to go to Immigrations so better be first than last. If you are not too sure where to go, there are helpful signs along the way than can help you. Ready your passport and always keep a copy of your boarding pass.

Lastly, if you haven’t changed or withdrawn money prior to your flight, there are several ATM and money-changing machines at airports. After making sure you have all your belongings with you, head out and smell the fresh air. Bon voyage!

Another of Brunel’s famous steamships was the ss Great Britain, which was the first iron-hulled, propeller-driven ship to cross the Atlantic.

You can get to Bristol from Wales by taking the seven bridge crossing which crosses the river seven. This is an impressive bridge that was built by the French. The overall length of the crossing is 5128 m and has three lanes in each direction. There is a toll charge for crossing the bridge but is only charged one way from England to Wales with crossings in the other direction free of charge. If you are flying into Bristol airport and need a car try car hire Bristol who will search all the local rental companies to find you the best deals.

Bristol is the largest city in the south west of England, with a population of approximately half a million. Bristol is a great city to explour and is located on the coast.

Summer is almost here. Chances are you have some sort of vacation planned that will involve getting into a bathing suit. You might be planning a trip to the world’s largest water park in the Wisconsin Dells. It could be a trip to Myrtle Beach and some fun in the sun. It could simply be a short trip that involves a stay at a hotel with a pool. Regardless of the reason, you will want to look and feel good when you put on that swim suit.

One of the most popular health and fitness supplements on the market today is the acai berry. Celebrities reportedly use this “secret weapon” to slim down and look great. It has been touted as the best antioxidant supplement on talk shows and news programs. There have been extensive studies in scientific journals I can’t even begin to understand. And there are tons of newspaper, magazine, and internet advertisements for this super food.

Before you run out and get the first acai berry supplement you can get your hands on, make sure you know what you are getting and why. Unlike many popular weight loss supplements, acai berry supplements do not control hunger or eating habits. They are an antioxidant that helps make your body healthier and have more energy. When you have more energy, you are able to be more active and which burns more calories and leads to weight loss. If you are looking for a miracle drug that is going to burn off fat while you sit on the couch, they won’t help you. If you want to feel better and have more energy which will lead to weight loss, you should try acai berries.

Now that we have talked about looking and feeling better for your vacation, lets talk for a minute about where you are going. If you don’t have plans yet or would like to find some ways to get a cheap family vacations, you should check out Cheap Family Vacations where you can enter to win a free cruise and find other ideas for saving a bunch of money on your family vacation.

My ideas are not always based on personal experience and are never more than just personal opinion designed to help you. I am not responsible for the fulfillment of any offer recommended.

With limited gear and a pair of skis, a climber is missing on Mount McKinley and an initial high-altitude aerial search produced no sightings this morning.

Gerald Myers, 41, of Centennial, Colo., is believed to have reached the 20,320-foot summit of North America’s highest peak Wednesday afternoon, according to National Park Service spokeswoman Maureen McLaughlin.

A group of climbers returning from the summit reported seeing Myers on the summit ridge, she said. But he has not returned to the 17,200-foot high camp or to the 14,200-foot camp from which he launched his solo summit attempt early Tuesday morning.

Park rangers think Myers may have elected to descend on a more difficult route other than the popular West Buttress, which he took to the summit ridge and perhaps beyond.

The fact he was carrying skis suggests he may have attempted to descend via the Orient Express or the Messner Couloir — both of which are ski descents, McLaughlin said. Descents on two other possible routes, the West Buttress and the Reserve Gully, can be done on snowshoes, skis or crampons, she said.

“There are many routes to come down and we do not know which one he was targeting,” McLaughlin said.

Myers was traveling light. Though he grabbed his skis from a cache at 17,200 feet on Tuesday morning, rangers believe he carried no sleeping bag, bivvy sack, thermal pad or camp stove. This guy is clearly not following the ten essentials for mountaineering.

He should know better than to go into the Chugach without gear as basic as this. His chances of survival are slim. You should never sacrifice the essentials for the sake of hiking light.

Now he would have to dig himself a shelter in the snow if he wants to stay alive. It is likely that he has injured himself which makes matters worst.

This morning’s search, by an Air National Guard HC-130 Hercules, was limited by high winds and cloud cover. A second search could happen this evening if there’s a break in the weather, McLaughlin said.

This is the third incident, and the first search, on the mountain this season, McLaughlin said. In separate incidents earlier this month, William Hearne of Fairport, N.Y., 61, collapsed on his approach to the 14,200-foot camp and died of apparent natural causes, and a man with pulmonary edema was evacuated from 14,200 feet.

Getting ready for a disaster is like having savings in the bank. Disasters can strike at a blink on an eye.

It’s always a good idea for you to have your hiking backpack ready in case a situation arises where you need to make a quick evacuation. A survival pack should contain both short term and long term survival needs.

A good survival pack should be lightweight and include items like knives, tools, water, seeds, clothes, fire, shelter, light. These items should be able to help you survive in the harshest of conditions.

To carry less, you need to know the likely conditions. A hiking pack that’s prepared for all the possible conditions are probably the best but they’re likely to be too heavy and bulky. If it was to be carried in a car you wouldn’t to worry about size and weight.

The problem is that things happen when you don’t expect them at a time when you’re not ready. Different experts will have different choices of survival equipment in their backpack. These guys are always trying to be prepared for sudden manmade or natural disaster in a variety of ways for the unexpected. A good survival equipment should take up little space and an indefinite shelf life.

Want to know what military operators and hunters carry?

They carry a fixed-blade knife in a sheath strapped to the outside of the pack, and a Leatherman Wave multi-tool inside the pack, along with two very compact Mylar blankets that have a variety of uses like signaling for help, collecting water or as a waterproof lean-to.

These professionals also carry waterproof matches, a disposable lighter, a magnesium bar with striker, a credit-card-sized plastic Fresnel lens, a zip-lock bag filled with mugwort and a two-quart Platypus bladder system or a hydration pack for drinking water.

For clothes are two pairs of underwear and socks, a hat, a fleece skullcap and a pair of lightweight gloves, plus two pairs of sunglasses, two pens, a notepad and a pair of pruning shears. Other useful items include garbage bags, zip-lock bags, freeze-dried meals and some utensils.

Don’t forget the first-aid kit, water purifier, ground tarp, compact binoculars, synthetic and leather cord, roll of electrical tape, wind and weather meter and roll of toilet paper. You may also consider carrying firearms and a lightweight bivvy.

The typical cost of a survival pack is around $2,000 but there are economical ways to pack an effective survival pack. A topic we hope to cover soon.

The majority of people have never gone camping before. This is mostly because of the fear of not having sufficient gear. Having the right gear doesn’t mean you have to break the bank.

There is no doubt that camping gear is expensive. Hiking boots, stoves, sleeping bags, tents, backpacks and trekking poles cost a lot of money. Depending on the terrain, you might need crampons, gaiters, balaclavas and other special equipment. If you are hiking with children you might want to have a child carrier.

A lot of money can be spent on camping gear very fast. Yet there are still a lot of people who don’t have that much money to spare that enjoy hiking and camping with little problems. Manufacturers like to make you think that you need all this stuff and all the expensive features.

The truth is camping is about going back to basics. You don’t need the luxury equipment. You can even find what you need in your own home or the local thrift store.

Check out the gear tips below that can really cut your costs:

- Down parkas are very expensive and can sometimes be too hot for you. Multiple layers will keep you warm and offers you can adjust if it gets too hot by removing the layers. Avoid using cotton for layers as they absorb water and makes you wet. It’s better to use synthetics and wool instead. Synthetics wick away water and keeps you dry. Wool is known for keeping you warm even when it’s wet.

- A windbreaker is a good option for a cheap waterproof outer shell. You only need expensive parkas when you’re going for an expedition under harsh conditions.

- Beginners should start with easy terrain and therefore a cheap tent is usually sufficient especially if you use a seam sealer. This should be done before every trip and should be reapplied when necessary. Cheap tents can be found at your local Walmart. Remember to check for tears. Unless you’re backpacking, you don’t really need an expensive tent.

- A lightweight down sleeping bag can cost you a lot of money. A zero degree synthetic sleeping bag should be good enough for mild winters. Use a chemical warmer and some layers of clothing to keep warm inside your sleeping bag. If you’re not backpacking and weight is not an issue, you can even be without the sleeping bag. You can use whatever suitable bedding you can find that doesn’t have to cost the mortgage but make sure you insulate yourself from the ground.

- Blisters are your worst enemy when you’re hiking so I don’t recommend cheap hiking boots. However if you’re just camping, you can wear just about any footwear as long as you’re comfortable.

- Campfires are not always allowed so you would need to use a camping stove for cooking. If not, there are a lot of cheap and practical stoves out there. You can either buy it new or used or you even just borrow them.

- For trekking poles you can just use a strong enough stick. I’ve used it for a few years without any problems. Some people may argue that cutting out sticks from the forest is bad for the environment and I recommend that you avoid cutting out walking sticks on the trail but the process of making those expensive trekking poles takes an even bigger toll on the environment.

This list is pretty basic but covers the most common concerns people have told me about. Camping gear doesn’t have to be overly expensive.

Of course the tips here may not apply to every situation. Sometimes you need specialty equipment e.g. gaiters but whenever possible you can use what you already have.

Backpacks are generally categorized into three: frameless, external frame, and internal frame. The main purpose of a frame is to support the hiking pack and helps to distribute the weight across your whole body, mainly on the hips so that your shoulders are not bearing all the burden.

Frameless Backpacks

This is the simplest and most inexpensive type of backpack you can find. The most basic design consist of one main pocket and connected to a set of shoulder straps. They are more used for general stuff rather than hiking. However, some are suitable for outdoor activities like hiking. Some more advanced versions have a suspension system like waist strap, chest strap and padded shoulders.

External Frame Backpacks

This is an old favorite with backpackers because of its large capacity and strong frame. The frame is very rigid and it supports a sack made of cloth or other materials.

External frames allow for users to carry a heavier weight than a frameless pack could. It also gives the wearer more support and protection and better weight distribution. The frames have been made of wood until about the middle of the twentieth century.

This type of backpack is not very common today and the frames are now made of lightweight metal tubes, often aluminum and sometimes titanium or scandium. A system of straps and pads keep the sack and frame from contacting the body so you get reduced sweatiness.

It is normal practice to strap bulky items such as camping tents, sleeping bags and pads on the frame because some parts of the frame are not occupied by the backpack. The main compartment is usually small compared to internal frame backpacks to allow for these bulky items to be strapped.

The problem with external frame backpacks is the center of gravity is very high up and away from the body resulting in instability. Keeping your balance especially when climbing up hills is not an easy task with external frame backpacks.

Users also complain of getting bruises as a result of the uncushioned frame rubbing or hitting against the body. However, external frame backpacks are very durable.

Internal Frame Hiking Backpacks

Invented in 1967 by Greg Lowe, the internal frame backpack has replaced external frame backpacks as the standard pack for hikers. Greg Lowe later went on to found Lowepro, a company specializing in backpacks and other carrying solutions for various equipment.

The frame which consists of strips of metal or plastic is integrated into the pack. A system of straps works with the frame to distribute the weight.

An internal frame backpack is fitted closely to the body and therefore the load is more easily controlled and easily predictable. You have more freedom of movement and are ideal for scrambling over rocky surfaces and hiking uphill. However, the close fit presents another problem; poor ventilation and therefore sweatier backs.

Unlike external frame backpacks, there are only a few (if any) lash points for your tent or sleeping bag and there is a limit to the size of whatever you want strapped to the outside of the pack. Fortunately, modern internal frame backpacks have a large capacity so that all of your gear can fit inside.

Check out these internal frame backpack and bivies which are great for backpacking because they’re compact, lightweight and easy to set up compared to tents.

Idaho travel offers you a look at something you have probably never seen before. There is the Shoshone Indian Ice Caves near Shoshone, Idaho which is truly a lava tunnel with the floor covered with ice year round. It isn’t as beautiful as the limestone caves with their delicate sculpture type creations but it is something that is worthy of seeing.

The lava tunnel is 1,000 feet long and has a wooden bridge going the distance so that you can walk the length of the cave and see how the floor is covered with ice and the end of the cave is a wall of ice. The ice stays year round as long as the door to the cave is closed during the summer so the heat doesn’t have a chance to come in and melt the ice. It is cold in the cave so you will need a jacket, bring one or borrow one from the entrance to the cave and you will be just fine.

Ugly sculptures lead up to the cave. A former owner thought they would attract tourists so he had them built. They probably do attract some, especially those with kids that want to see them, that’s about all they are good for, kids to play on.

Direct claims settlement

Many people face a lot of issues when they try to make a claim on their tourists health insurance for US. It is easy to buy tourist medical insuance from the companies but during settlement, the companies can prove to be very hard to deal with.

The problem of paying large upfront fees to hospitals and health care providers is also quite big. Then you also have to pay the remainder of the fees once you are discharged from the place. This can be an exasperating experience and financially it can be a burden.

The good news is that these troubles can be avoided by choosing the right health insurance for tourists policy. Some of the major tourists health insurance for US policies on the market have a feature that will take care of these fees on your behalf. This feature is called a cashless claims settlement feature or direct claims settlement feature.

Insurance companies usually give this facility at the time of your hospitalization to the hospitals and healthcare centers that are within the company’s network. If you are planning to get hospitalized, you call your tourists health insurance for US company hotline with proof of need of treatment and they authorize you for the in-network hospital. Then all your bills are sent directly to the company.

Quite a few tourists health insurance for US companies are currently offering policies with this cashless tourist insurance claims settlement feature. Thus, when you are purchasing tourists insurance look for this benefit so that you can get your treatment with some peace of mind. And without worrying about the bills, you will have to pay later.

These insurance for tourists companies also provide this feature for emergency hospitalization. In this case, a friend or a family member of the patient contacts the company and gets the required authorization. This kind of authorization is also available for non-network facilities in some cases.

With cashless or direct tourists health insurance for US claims settlement, there is not much that will worry you when you have to get treated during your trip abroad. All your transactions are being taken care of by the company and you can just lie back and heal yourself.

This feature thus allows you to make your health insurance for tourists claims in advance and in tandem with your treatment. It frees you from the hassle of post-treatment paperwork and claims settlement with the insurance company. With cashless settlements, your insurance company is the one who takes care of everything.

By deciding “what you want to do” to start with, you are off to the best start of selecting that perfect Kentuckty derby tour destination!

A bivvy is an affectionate name for what is also known as the bivouac sack. They evolved from the old sleeping bag cover. They’re very easy to set up, smaller than any other type of tent, lightweight and waterproof. It is commonly used by solo backpackers, mountain climbers and the military.

Construction

A simple bivvy consist of a single layer of waterproof material. Early versions of the bivy made use of silnylon as the waterproof shell. It is a very lightweight fabric that gives you about another 10 degree fahrenheit extra protection from windchill and rain.

One big problem with the earlier versions of the bivouac bag is the humidity that condenses on the inside renders sleeping bags to be wet. This still happens in some tents today. The use of the waterproof/breathable fabric, Gore-Tex, helps to remove some of the humidity while keeping out water from the outside.

Another way that this problem is addressed is by using an inner vapor barrier liner bag or VBL. VBLs prevent body moisture from entering the condensing in the sleeping bag.

In the past, bivvy bags have a small hole above the user’s face for breathing. Thanks to Gore-Tex Exchange Lite, an air permeable version of the fabric, the bivvy can be safely zipped up to cover the whole body including the head thus shutting out the elements completely. This new fabric allows both carbon dioxide exhaled by the user and moisture to escape.

Bivvy shelters

In biological terms, the bivouac bag is a macroinvertebrate, meaning it has no spine or rigid structure. Bivy shelters on the other hand employs hoops over the head and feet so that the fabric is kept off the user resulting in more breathing room around the head. This also prevents the condensation from soaking into the sleeping bag.

Bivvy shelters are a bit heavier than bivvy sacks but the increased comfort justifies the additional weight. However, bivvy sacks are still favored among mountain climbers and backpackers or adventurers on dangerous expeditions as a compact emergeny shelter.

Popularity

Improvement in bivvy shelters have given rise to the number of experienced hikers who favor them. Some like the Outdoor Research Deluxe Bivy have anticlaustrophobic features like a white interior with a shock-corded Delrin hoop for breathing room and 5-foot zippers that allow you to ventilate while keeping you dry.

Bivvies are also popular among carp fishermen who fish throughout the night. This solo shelter is becoming more advanced and user friendly as manufacturers scramble to make better bivvies in response to the increasing demands.

Experienced hikers would tell you that one of the most important thing to do is is packing your gear because you wouldn’t like to leave what is critical and bring what you don’t need.

This would largely depend on the trip itself whether special gear is needed. Packing will become easier the more you do it.

Every trip will bring insights to whether your camp gear were sufficient or whether you need something more. In the end it’ll be easier to pack to the bare minimum and enjoy some ultralight backpacking.

In order to keep your supplies dry, one of the best ways is to use three plastics inside your internal frame backpack. You can also use 3 large stuff sacks. The bottom bag would be for clothes, fuel, stove and other heavy gear or stuff that don’t get used very often. The bag in the middle should be for food and the one on top for electronics like your phone, GPS and PDAs.

Try not to put your wallet in your pocket or you may learn the hard way like I did that it’s not wise. It took the whole day to dry the cash. If you need quick access, use the exterior pockets.

I use ziploc bags a lot to organize my gear. You can further segregate your breakfast from your detergent, repair kits, cellphone, and more with this useful plastic bag. A must-have if you want to ensure that your gear stays dry.

Remember to include the first aid kit. Anything can happen in the outdoors. A mess kit, bugspray, waterproof matches and whistle are also great to have. Put the items that you might need quick access to in the outer side pockets. You must know where you put important items and try not change where you put them. Losing things is not fun especially when it happens on a camping trip.

It is very important that you have enough food and snacks. You need a lot more food on a backpacking trip than normal because you will burn a ton of calories. You would only truly know how much food you need through trial and error and to be on the safe side carry more food than you think you might need. The same goes for water. Carrying too much water won’t hurt as much as not having any. If you don’t know how much you actually need then carry more than you think you’d need.

A trail mix is one of the best things you can have on a hiking trip. The dried fruits provide fiber and nutrition while the nuts provide you a vital source of energy, natural fats. Energy bars and gels can also give you a boost. Avoid chocolate when it’s hot unless you take the necessary precautions to prevent it from making a mess as it is melted by the heat.

Canned food should be avoided because they’re heavy and the waste is not easily disposed. You need to carry your rubbish until you can dispose of it properly.

Dehydrated foods are great for hiking because they’re very light yet a very good source of nutrition and they taste wonderful. It’s a good idea to pack a camp stove. You’ll save more on fuel is you use a liquid fuel camping stove. They also work well in sub-zero temperatures unlike propane stoves that can freeze at a certain temperature and you may have problems lighting it up.

Avoid cotton clothing as best as you can because cotton absorbs your sweat and being in wet clothes in cold weather is really bad. Synthetic or nylon fiber or wool clothing including socks, underwear, shirt and fleeces are quick drying.

If you don’t want to miss out anything, prepare a checklist. Think about everything that you might need on a hiking trip. Then you decide which ones you really need and which ones you can be without.
