Some Things You Should Know About City Breaks In Inverness
Mar 29th, 2009 by DavePF
Inverness, known as the capital of the Highlands of Scotland, was ceremoniously granted city status in two thousand and one and at this time is the only city in the Scottish Highlands. Strangely the city has no statutory boundaries which can create problems when estimating populations. The calculations are distorted further by the fact that the population in increasing dramatically, Inverness has the highest growth rate for any city in the UK. One certainty we know of is that the population of the city is very happy, in 2008 the Telegraph ranked Inverness 5th out of 189 cities in the United Kingdom for its quality of life. Following on we can state that Inverness is a beautiful city in which to spend time and this is most probably one of the reasons which make Inverness amazingly popular with tourists. Importantly there is a large number of Inverness bed and breakfasts with the majority of it being available to book online.
Inverness is also referred to as being the gateway to the Scottish Highlands for the clear fact that it is best placed to make the most of the Highland public transport system and a considerable amount of visitor attractions are nearby. Probably the best way to see them is by using an organized coach tour or day trip. A few companies visiting places such as, Urquart Castle, Loch Ness or Culloden or for the adventurous tourist you can to visit such places as Orkney in a single day. It is also possible to go on a small selection of city tours, such as those run by Tony Harmsworth.
Some tourists decide to stay in 2 different locations in the Highlands for example Fort William & Inverness. Fort William is extremely popular with sports folk especially rock climbers, ramblers and hill walkers who get excited getting to the summit of Ben Nevis which towers above the town’s center. In a similar fashion to Inverness bed & breakfast accommodation in Fort William and rather like most Scotland bed & breakfast it is nearly always cheap, excellent value for money and extremely tidy, clean and comfortable with world renowned hospitality.
One of the most important things to know is that Inverness Airport is, about, 7 miles to the east at Dalcross. It is easy to hail a cab to the small and busy airport which is quite cheap. If you will benefit from using a map of Inverness then you can get them for free at the tourist office, in the town center. While you are enjoying your Inverness vacation you should remember to visit the Mercat Cross and ‘stone of tubs’, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and Inverness Castle especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, a fun interactive experience.
